I joined the Sacramento Digital Photography Meetup Group for a trip up to Calaveras Big Trees State Park and the Ebbett’s Pass area. We enjoyed a leisurely walk around the North Grove of the park and then we were all going to meet up at Bear Valley for lunch; well I lost the group somewhere on the way there, so I continued east on Highway 4, which is Ebbett’s Pass National Scenic Byway and takes you over the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the Eastern Sierra area.  Lots of pretty alpine lakes, in what is appropriately called the Alpine Lakes Recreation area.  I also took an off-road side trip to Highland Lakes and soaked up the beauty of those lakes. I went all the way over the Sierras to Bridgeport and took a motel room at the historic Bridgeport Inn, but I didn’t meet the ghost of the White Lady

Dardanelles Lake

I joined Larry, his canine friend Gurr, Eric, Gloria and Martin for a lovely hike to Dardanelles Lake.  We started from the Tahoe Rim Trail’s Big Meadow trailhead off Highway 89.  The trail starts off in the forest, but then it opens up on to Big Meadow, where Gurr went wild chasing large sticks that were being thrown for him.  Some late flowers were still scattered here and there and the fall colors were starting to show.  We continued on, through the trees and across some gentle stream crossings.  After a couple of miles Eric (aka Souphead) and I stopped and found a geocache that was hidden along the trail.  We reached the lake and enjoyed a nice leisurely lunch and Martin and Gurr enjoyed a swim in the lake.  I took a 360 degree panoramic photo and then we decided to do a “clone your hike-mates’ photo… so Eric and Gloria got into the spirit and were excellent posers.  So when you look at the second QTVR.. try to figure out which one is the real Eric and Gloria… LOL!  Before we left the lake, Eric and I unsuccessfully looked for one more hidden cache, but even with everyone looking for it, we couldn’t find it.  Time to head back now, even Gurr is a little tuckered out now.
